Original Paintings
The original paintings in this gallery represent a wide variety of my interests. I go to game parks and zoos to study wildlife, have explored the intriguing meditative symbol of the mandala, follow my own pets around and get inspired by their unique behavior, watch the songibrds at my backyard feeders, and occasionally drift off into Faerieland for my faerie inspiration.
Most wildlife pieces are done in many layers of transparent watercolor, for it's closeness to fur and feathers, but I occasionally use colored pencil, particularly in the cat pieces. The entire Animal Mandala Series was done in acrylic on illustration board for the vibrancy that this medium offers. I paint on heavy weight Italian (Fabriano) watercolor paper and occasionally watercolor board. In early years I was trained as a portrait artist, but put down my oils over 30 years ago and haven't been able to get back to them. I'm having too much fun with water.

7x8 Mini-Embellished Reproductions
"The pieces in this gallery are smaller versions of many of my larger pieces. After having many requests for smaller, gift sized embellished pieces, I added this smaller size, which is perfect to display on a decorative easel or to hang in a small wall space. Also, many of my collectors like to display groupings. Four seasons songbird groupings have become very popular."
All framed pieces within this gallery have original work painted onto the mat by the artist, are sized at approx.7"x8", may be hung or displayed on an easel, and are sealed for moisture. They are framed in a solid wood frame with antique gold finish and raised detailing which is custom made for the artist. They are priced at $55 and $60 ea. depending on the frame chosen.

Animal Mandalas
The Mandala is an intriguing symbol. It's origins are thousands of years old, and it is found in Asian art and religion as well as in Jungian psycology. The symbol, made up of a series of geometric images repeated in a circular pattern, has been used for centuries to celebrate the deity within the images chosen. In Jungian psycology, the mandala represents the unification of the self. The circle in all cultures is a representation of the cycle of life.
"As an artist I spend many hours contemplating the various shapes, colors, and unique characteristics of each of my subjects. Within the Animal Mandala series, I decided to allow the viewer into my world by using the mandala format. Each piece is an in-depth study of the particular animal chosen.
For example, most people think of the flamingo as a pink bird with long legs and neck. I chose to portray the flamingo using a more vibrant color (which they can be, depending on their diet) but more importantly, to focus on the very interesting shape of the beak and neck as well. By placing the flamingo in this position, and then repeating it, one's eye is drawn to the center of the piece, and then momentarily, one is drawn into the negative space. This captures one's attention and draws one in, even if only for a moment, to the space surrounding the image. This "drawing in" is one of the most intriguing facets of the mandala symbol. It does not force you to meditate on the image, but in fact invites you in to contemplate the image. I fell in love with the implications of this idea, and consequently developed a series of 7 "Animal Mandala". Here are the results of my endeavors. Enjoy!" Janet
Each piece in the Animal Mandala series is a limited edition lithographic reproduction, signed and numbered by the artist. The unframed pieces are approx. 18"x18" and are priced at $65.ea. Framed pieces are matted in either an arctic white w/black core or a solid black mat, and are framed in a black gallery frame. The framed pieces are sized at approx. 20"x20" and priced at $135.

Cats
The Cats series is a culmination of many years of my experience at being a pet owner. Having lived in the country for over 30 years, and having had several children, we have had dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ducks,(and even a pony, turtle,& chipmunk for a while.) I enjoy all animals, and occasionally paint my dogs, but there is nothing like the sheer fun and joy of portraying the smug attitude of a cat, doing whatever he feels like, and having to answer to no one. Most of the cats in my gallery are either my own or friend's cats. Once in a while I make up a piece, but even then, it's based on a true story. As you cat owners browse through this series, you will not be surprised by what you see. In fact, you will probably look around and find one of your guys in a similar pose.
The pieces in this gallery are shown framed. Some are limited editions, some are signed open editions, and all are various sizes. However, all pieces are also available matted to an 8x10 size. Check the 8x10 page for details. Check the Originals Page for avilability of originals.

Embellished Reproductions
In my original pieces, I spend many hours using a detailed watercolor technique, adding multiple layers of color to breathe life into my animal subjects.
In producing my reproductions, I work meticulously to keep them as close to the originals as possible. For this reason, I also often include embellishments in my reproduction work, which involves painting additional work onto the mat. I have found that this aproach adds an extra level of life, depth, dimension, and occasionally motion to the piece. It is a fun way for me to present my work, and I have embellished reproductions in almost every series. Enjoy!

Faeries
The Faerie Series began many years ago when my youngest daughter insisted that any nature artist worth her salt should be painting the faerie realm. And added that "Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they're not there." Finding it hard to argue with that logic, I set about to find and paint them. The first few faeries were done with my daughter's help. She told me what she saw, and I sketched. After that, I would at odd times find myself drifting off, and "seeing" a faerie image or in studying a wildfower I would find myself looking past the flower and I would see some aspect of the faerie realm. This I was told is 'going into faerie land.' At any rate, it has been a fun journey, and in viewing this series you can see where my journey has taken me.
All embellished faeries come in 2 sizes. 10x12's and 16x20's. Unframed prices are $50 and $75. Framed prices are $85 and $135. 8x10 matted prints (without the embellishments) are also available for $22. Check the Originals Page for availability of original faeries.

Wildlife
The wildlife pieces in this gallery reflect many of my travels to game parks and zoos across this country and in Canada. Many of the pieces here are lithographic or giclee' reproductions, and are shown either framed or unframed. They are different sizes, usually the same size as the original. However, almost all pieces are also matted and sized to fit a standar 8x10 frame. See 8x10 Page for details.
