Embellished Reproductions
Janet Mandel has received both regional and national recognition over the past 35 years for her fashion illustration, weavings, portraiture and wildlife paintings. Her exclusive focus since 1995 has been her detailed watercolor portrayals of both wild and domestic animals. She is a member of several animal and wildlife rescue organizations, and is active in her local chapter of the National Audubon Society.
Her work has been featured since 2001 by the National Geographic Society, the National Audubon Society and the Smithsonian Institution in their Christmas greetings programs.
Janet's work depicts her love and respect of wild creatures, and her sense of humor regarding the more domestic variety. It is her attention to detail, as well as her use of embellishments  that makes Janet's work unique.
"Embellished Reproductions" have become a trademark of Janet's work over the past several years.
"By extending the painting onto the mat, I find I can bring additional depth, dimension, life, and sometimes even motion to my reproductions.  In my original paintings I try to bring each of my subjects to life.
So I am very concerned that this 'life' will translate into my reproductions. I am personally involved in the process of reproducing my work, and am meticulous  about matching the colors to the originals. However, I find that in taking the next step, by adding the embellishments onto the mat, I am offering my reproductions a uniqueness that I feel good about."  Janet
